Self-harmers come from all walks of life
regardless of:
gender |
age |
ethnicity |
religion |
ability/disability |
background |
education |
social class |
sexuality |
culture |
Many people use self-harming behaviours to cope
with their feelings on a regular basis. Behaviours such as
comfort eating, gambling, driving too fast, "retail therapy", a
glass or two of wine to relax and so on may be socially
acceptable but are nevertheless self-harming, even though they
are not always recognized as such.
